Nina Glick Schiller, A Comparative Approach to Transnational Migration and Cities: Theorizing Locality in a Neoliberal Age.

This paper contributes to efforts to develop a comparative theory of locality in transnational migration studies. It examines the mutual relationship between neoliberal restructuring and rescaling of urban life and variations in migrant pathways of incorporation in particular cities.

The paper also calls for a reflexive theory of locality. In other words, I ask why ethnicity rather than locality has been the primary unit of analysis in migration studies and why locality is now beginning to be addressed.
